It was an impressive performance from the blues in an away win against La Liga leaders in Bucharest. Giroud scored the only goal of the encounter.

With records, Chelsea are likely to progress to the next round. This is their 14th time of winning the first leg of a European knockout tie away from home. And they have progressed on each of the previous 13 occasions.
This was supposed to be Chelsea’s Coach, Thomas Tuchel toughest test since joining the blues but he was able to control the tempo of the game. Luis Suarez was kept at bay and they we’re able to control possession throughout the game.
Atletico Madrid could not manage a single shot on target throughout the encounter. Chelsea are now in position to qualify for the quarter finals.
But they will be without Jorginho and Mason Mount in the second leg of the encounter which will be played at Stamford Bridge on the 17th of March due to the suspension from booking.
In the second match of the day, Champions League winners, Bayern Munich flogged Lazio in Rome 4-1 to put themselves in pole position to qualify for the quarter finals.
