The coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has a great quality of squad to select from as his team lock horns against Benin Republic today.

Despite the withdrawals of four quality players from the squad who have been replaced by home based players, the coach still has a lot of quality at his disposal.

Nigeria and Benin are first and second on the Group L table respectively. The Super Eagles currently leads with eight points while the Squirrels of Benin currently leads with seven points from five games.

The gaffer is only allowed to field eleven players from the 23 players invited. So he has to pick the best among his players and the most inform ones.

Let’s give you clue to what the predicted line up will look like;

Despite the return of first choice goalie, Francis Uzoho to full fitness, he might not start today’s match. In the absence of him, Maduka Okoye should man the goalpost.

The youngster, Maduka Okoye has been in impressive form for his club and country since Uzoho got injured during the international friendly against Brazil in 2019 and for his club, Rotterdam in the Dutch League this season.

In the right back position, Ola Aina is expected to start having been impressive also for his club side, Fulham in the English Premier League this season with Tyrone Ebuehi and Shehu Abdullahi behind him in the pecking order. He has got a couple of goals and assist to his name also.

And in the left back position, UEFA Champions League quarter finalist, Zaidu Sanusi is expected to start ahead of Jamilu Collins. The Porto defender was not very impressive in the 4-4 draw against Sierra Leone in his last match for the Eagles but has been impressive for Porto in their Champions League matches, so he is expected to start.

For the central defence, the team needs to be solid as ever due to their awful display in the 4-4 draw against Sierra Leone. This is why the experience duo of William Troost Ekong and Leon Balogun will be needed to stop any plot by the Squirrels of Benin.

Super Eagles is rich in midfield, we are likely to see the usual faces ones again. Wilfred Ndidi is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the English Premier League and should be granted a starting slot.

While the duo of Joe Aribo and Oghenekaro Etebo will play alongside Ndidi in the midfield to provide an energetic midfield trio.

And in the attack should be made up of senior man kel (Kelechi Iheancho) of Leicester City and Napoli front man, Victor Oshimen pair upfront and switch roles to the inside right channel when the need arises with Alex Iwobi of Everton playing off the inside left channel.

Gernot Rohr is expected to use the 4-4-2 formation and 4-3-3 to keep the Squirrels of Benin at bay according to our predicted line up.

On the bench should include; Francis Uzoho, Semi Ajayi, Tyrone Ebuehi, Jamilu Collins, Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu, Adekunle Adeleke and Anayo Iwuala.
